The problem with men is that, unlike women, they so rarely develop the self-insight necessary to ask of themselves: am I good enough? Theyre encouraged to be loud, confident, entitled, and so they help themselves to all the plunder and glory the Earth can offer. They never stop to ask themselves if they have a right to this place, to this person, if their presence will do harm or whether it might bring ill. Instead they blithely assume that theirs is a righteous and beneficial presence, they take that which is not theirs and justify the action after the fact, if they question themselves at all. So cocksure and confident, those bold admirable adventurers, and here the crone paused to suck in a deep breath, wringing gnarled hands in her apron, in a whisper: yet it is always the rest of us whore left to clean up in their wakes.
