The process of creating fresco tiles using modern material will be explained and demonstrated. The difference between a mural and a fresco I recently learnt from Art History students who had come for fresco restoration work to Shekhawati, is that Fescos are painted while the putty is still wet. Traditional Putty or the material used to add a smooth finish to the wall and even it out was made of lime stone and marble powder, this I learnt from restoration expert, Kavita Jain, responsible for the restoration of Jal Mahal Palace in Jaipur. The question is, does modern day material manufacture this type of quality. I pose this question to APL (Asian Paints Limited), on behalf of the Shekhawati Fresco Restoration on team from the Material R&D Department.
