The process of spiritual growth is a gentle opening, like the bud - TopicsExpress

The process of spiritual growth is a gentle opening, like the bud opening into a flower. It blossoms at its own pace. We wouldn’t say to the bud, “Hurry up! You’re taking too long!” Or, “You’re not doing it right. You should be doing it a different way.” And surely the bud isn’t thinking, “Hmmm, I wonder which way I should go now?” or “I hope I’m going fast enough; I don’t want to be late.” Everything happens naturally, without any pushing, struggling, or straining to become a flower. It is a gentle process that happens of its own accord. The same is true in our own life. If we struggle, if we put ourselves down, if we think we’re not doing it right, that we’re not doing very well, or that we aren’t good enough, and feel that we should be pushing ourselves even harder, or if we’re disappointed or impatient with ourselves, we only create our own hell. All these things are only the ego fighting to remain in control. [D.R.B.]
