The promised pictures of Beauvale Lodge, Nottinghamshire. It was built as a subsidiary house close to Earl Cowpers coal mines and was only intended for short visits (his lordship already owned Panshanger and Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire and Melbourne in Derbyshire). He referred to it as, my new cottage. The house was designed in 1871 by Edward Godwin and the first picture is Godwins own drawing of the house. The seems to be a mixture of Romantic and Gothic, with nods to Arts & Crafts and a sort of Normandy Vernacular. It must have been a comfortable and cosy house in which to live.
