The puppy, I named her Alex, it is an old English word that means Protector of Mankind. I like that idea and the name, too. Alex is doing fine. Shes adjusting to the cats. Right now they have a Mexican standoff going on. They hiss and growl and she growls and barks. Its so funny, I have to get it on video. I put her on Puppy Chow and got her some treats and Dentastix. Im going to get her a small bone today to chew on because shes teething. I gave her a bath last night and she was flea free and now is a little fluff ball. Shes only had two small peeing accidents and I caught her doing it both times. I grabbed her up saying, No, we go OUTSIDE. Then took her outside and let her finish, praised her and gave her a treat. She catching on so fast. She slept with me last night, what little sleep she got. She slept too much yesterday and last night wanted to PLAY. She kept climbing on my face licking me and scratching me, so I got up and cut her nails, which she didnt seem to mind at all. She still didnt go to sleep for another two hours, around 1 or 2 am, but slept until 8. So thats great. I got her some toys and washed a cat bed someone gave me years ago thats never been slept in. Its big for a cat bed, but perfect for her. I put the toys and a flannel throw in there and she hides everything under the throw, then drags it all out, one by one and shakes them around and throws them up in the air and catches them. Then she hides them under the throw again and starts all over again. She loves going outside and isnt even giving me a hard time about being on a leash, but also amuses herself quite well with the toys. Shes quite a delight. I admit that I cried half-way to Nettleton where I picked her up. It is bittersweet getting a new dog when Snoopy has only been dead less than two weeks. Ill never love another dog like I did Snoopy. She was just so special to me. Im not trying to replace her love, just have a little extra protection in the house. But Alex is a sweetheart and shes already attached to my hip 24/7. I was in the kitchen this morning and heard her barking and crying like crazy in the hall, so I went to see why she was acting like this and she didnt see me, but I watched her for a few seconds barking hysterically at the bathroom door. I called her and she jumped a foot when she realized I was BEHIND her instead of in the bathroom, which is where she THOUGHT I was. I laughed SO HARD. Having an 8-week old German shepherd dog puppy has me running into myself coming out of another room. But I love it. Thank you again, Stephen Peterson.
