The purpose of Hatha Yoga is to climb the ladder of Raja yoga. - TopicsExpress

The purpose of Hatha Yoga is to climb the ladder of Raja yoga. This particular verse which appears in Hatha yoga pradipika has lead many people to think that Hatha yoga is like a preparatory stage for Raja yoga, which classically refers to Patanjalis yoga sutra based practice. However, in Hatha yoga pradipika itself, the author sage Svatma Rama has made it clear that what he means by raja yoga is samadhi itself. So Hatha yoga is also about refining and enhancing our capacity of perception and recogition in such a way that the insightful states of samadhi can arise. But for this, mere stretching of the shapes of asana would not suffice. Students should learn the supporting philosophy of Hatha, which to a big extent is Tantra. A good knowledge of 36 tattwa model is important. As stated in the 4th chapter of Hatha yoga pradipika (which is totally on Samadhi), Tattva is the seed, Hatha is the field, equanimity is the water, through which the tree of samadhi can grow. https://facebook/photo.php?v=731883716825827&set=vb.135859076428297&type=3&theater
