The purpose of Pan-Africanism, bluntly put, is about the empowerment of African people, those at home and those abroad. Africa is the wealthiest continent, in regards to natural resources, in the world. It is an actual sin, a crime against humanity, an abomination for African people to be the poorest in the world. Only a Pan-Africanist approach can change this. And so for me, what we might call Garveyism, or Pan-Africanism, can only be perceived as the global unity of African people--those at home and those abroad. Because the status of Black people outside of Africa--in Haiti, Brazil, Panama, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Suriname, Guyana, France, the US, etc., mirrors that of Africa itself. Bottom line, wherever Black people are, we are on the bottom. And this is inexcusable! So Pan-Africanism is key. Runoko Rashidi.
