The purpose of this project is to enable the relocation of cat colonies who are in danger. This particular cathouse is for a colony living in a condemned home. Without intervention this pride of Long Island tigers would suffer a bad to worse quality of life change when demolition began. Thats as G-rated as I can say it. We are trying an idea we have been toying around with. Inexpensive structures built primarily from pallets with an outdoor cattery attached. These can be built almost anywhere. They give the caretaker the ability to survey the entire colony every visit and enable thorough veterinary/medicinal care when needed. Without any donated materials the price for one complete structure with netted over outside cattery is around a thousand dollars (thats just materials but since we work for free...). Weve built one from scrap and garbage for around three hundred and it looks like it but its sold and watertight. This one will have siding to match the house and proper windows installed so we can build to suit. There are many unused properties on which these can be built. Property owners can write off a portion of their taxes for the donated space and worst case, when the property is sold we can move the whole setup. This homeless cat situation is out of control and getting worse but we are certain there exists a humane solution. We are willing to put in the work to try and find one or in lieu of that make our own. ~Matthew
