The qualification of an elder is not doctrine alone, or conduct alone; It is doctrine AND conduct. For an elder must not only be able to teach right doctrine but also be an example of godliness. A man who is unable to teach the truth even though he is considered ethical by most, is disqualified from ministry. Also, a man who is perceived as sound in doctrine, if he is unethical and ungodly in his conduct is NOT fit to be an elder. Sadly, many people who lead congregations in Nigeria today are UNFIT for ministry, their only qualification is that they were willing and available; but since the show must go on, what God commands is not important, it is Gods problem, they imagine, let Him deal with it!!!
