The quest for equity in life is a chief contributor to our unhappiness and daily stress. Thinking that others should do what you do, feel what you feel, behave the way you behave, or treat us like we treat them will cause us great grief and distress. Setting aside the aspect that it is completely unfair and alienating to others, it eats away at our spirit and emotional well being. Where we see this most is in marriages. One person will feel that they are giving more, doing more, and even feeling more than their mate. Of course one person will always feel deeper and one may also give more! It is impossible for it to be otherwise. Its the meanings we attach to that disparity that is destructive to us. One who gives more or one who feels deeper may feel unloved, unappreciated, neglected, used, taken advantage of, or even angry at the disparity. How we feel over these differences can in many cases be destructive to the relationship as well as stressing to us. Letting the issue go and UNDERSTANDING that we give more because we have more to give is crucial. To him that much is given, much will be expected. If you give more, its because God has given you more NOT because you are a better person. So give because its in YOU to give and love because its in you to love without expecting the same in return. Take no thought for fairness and do not believe the negative feelings we may experience when we see the disparity. Keep in mind that our works will be judged by God and He will judge fairly and equally. Our judgements toward others are usually harsh and self absorbed, therefore unfair and unreasonable. Also, remember that the same judgement we use on others may be used ON us. Do we want others feeling toward us when they outgive us, the same feelings that we feel toward others when we outgive them?
