The question Google asks when you log in...Whats on your mind? Do you have something on your mind when you log in or does the question prompt you to collect your thoughts and come up with a subject? With me its about 90/10...I mostly log in because I have something to say and that has nearly always been prompted by watching or reading something that has been posted in the Media! The Media...a term we apply to a vast number of people and technologies engaged in collecting and presenting information to the rest of us. We are deluged by information, no significant event now happens globally without us knowing about it. Being in the know drives much of what we do and provides us with the information to make decisions and earn a living. This technology, Im using to post these comments, has exploded like a digital Supernova and has become an essential part of 21st century human survival. The undeniable fact is that our society would now collapse if we lost electricity but that would be further compounded by the subsequent loss of the information exchange that now runs our lives. Thats certainly food for thought but one other question often occurs to me...whats this barrage of information doing to us? We evolved to live in a much smaller world where the horizon for many was the boundary of the community in which we lived. The information we received was passed by word of mouth and was limited to the events that occurred in our local community and our personal survival. The rest of the world was a mystery. You could shut you mind off to this information tsunami but youd need to be prepared to live a much simpler life, not now particularly feasible in developed societies.
