The question has been raised, Are there any recommended alphabets - TopicsExpress

The question has been raised, Are there any recommended alphabets on which to model single-stroke letters? Well, there are a few which have merit, but each seems to have a few fatal flaws, too. This image shows my own take on a set of letters and figures which I have brought into the digital realm from the world of 20th-century American sign painting, but in a slightly different way than is commonly seen. These are not brush-lettered. They are vectors which have traits that I believe serve beginners well. The characters are of medium/semibold weight, and are modestly condensed to be space-efficient. Both variations of G are from the repertoire of sign painting; the alternate J, K, and U are from the tradition of type design. Nevertheless, each lettering artist can use the guides to shape letters which will appear as though they belong to the American sign painting continuum. And, each letterer can add a bit of snap to his or her interpretations of the forms. At the bottom of the page are instructions and suggestions for printing the file at Ledger (Tabloid) size. You can get a copy of the file by writing to SPSG member, Silver Persinger. (He will send the file to the same e-mail address you use to make your request.) In the interest of keeping any nosy spambots from pouncing on Silver, I shall express his e-mail address cryptically as -at.sign- Please observe the conditions of this release. The handout is free. Copies of it are not to be sold or redistributed under any circumstances. Thank you.
