The failure of the British military campaigns in America gives you no right to make such demands." -Wellington upon being asked if he would take command during the War of 1812. Really, the US did far worse than the British during the war. If possible, our officers were worse than the British (rather impressive, as British officers in the infantry and cavalry buy their commissions), with a few exceptions, but the inability of the British to take the great lakes meant they would never win.
