The question on a lot of fans minds, regarding Marvels ANT-MAN, is what role does Janet Van Dyne play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? In the comics, she was a love interest-turned-hero, taking on the name Wasp. And, with lover Hank Pym as Ant-Man, helped found The Avengers. But, everyone knows, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man and Wasp arent founding members of The Avengers. So, whats up with them in the films? Well, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rather than being a modern-day hero, Hank was actually Ant-Man in the 1960s, supposedly either working with, or under, SHIELD. But, the movie isnt about him.... Its about his protege, the conman and thief Scott Lang, taking on the mantle of Ant-Man in modern day. And, in turn, rather than Janet being the love interest, its actually Hanks and Jans daughter, Hope. Theres a lot of speculation on whats going on with Janet... We got a tease at SDCC this year that something happened to her... Some take that as her being dead, but sources have mentioned that that might not, totally, be the case. But.... Was she still The Wasp? A lot of people are speculating Hope will be the film universes Wasp. As a matter of fact, some hope (Heh...) she will don the identity in Marvels Ant-Man. But... Maybe thats not the case? Actress Evangeline Lilly, who will play Hope, reveals that Janet WAS a hero at one point in her Marvel Cinematic Universe life, explaining that she was raised to be able to look after herself. Whether well see Jan, or even her in-costume is another question, but its good to know Marvels definitely keeping some things as in-tact as they can. Lilly even goes so far to say that Marvels doing a great job, with this movie, to deliver on both Hank Pyms and Scott Langs story, giving fans of both generations what they all want. I, for one, am really excited for this movie! I may be the only one... Probably am.... Most likely.... :P
