The question that for me underlies our policy in the Middle East - TopicsExpress

The question that for me underlies our policy in the Middle East is just who is it we are supporting? The Islamists have a revolutionary goal, whether we believe them or not, which intends to overthrow corrupt comprador regimes that have been built on American and British oil interests. Which of the governments that we are propping up have a vision of sharing the wealth with the people? Which of them care about their people more than the advantages of being on the US payroll? Whereas I dont trust the Islamists either, I cant help but remember that the reason we lost the Vietnam war was that the Vietnamese people hated the Saigon regime, its taxes, its long history having all the wealth and leaving the majority with the shitty end of the stick. By the time I arrived in Vietnam in 1967 over 80 percent of the country would have voted for the NLF had they been allowed an election. Same old same old.
