The question that has been brought forward to us more times than any other question is: What would the WPFAA have done differently? Everything. Absolutely everything about this negotiation process would be different if the WPFAA were your representation. We would be negotiating a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), not amendments to a set of work guidelines that were never voted upon. Negotiations would be between an independent WPFAA supported by third party negotiators and WestJet, not just with various subsidiary groups within the same organization, all being paid by the same parent company. It is important to not confuse this certification drive for a political campaign. This is not about what kind of work rules we would have written if we were your representation, or what our opinions are of the conditions with which we have been presented. First and foremost, we want certification. Once we have certified, we can begin to discuss negotiations and work rules that are standard in our industry. In order to certify, we need your support. We (the WPFAA) are seeking to change the structure of your representation, so that we can bring validity, legality and accountability to your work rules. What become your work rules will be decided by you. Our members are at the top of our organization chart. That’s because your voice matters.
