The quote accompanying this work is a fantastic learning experience, and the work itself is bold, moving. The subjects, the Indian, the horse.... what they symbolize, are universal. The symbolism in this painting is expressive of the heartstrings of many. Somehow this painting comes across my radar just as I am contemplating victim and victor, the wounded champion, the wounded healer. The movement of the rider, the riders nakedness, the power in the arms to grasp, to embrace, to rein. The hair is also significant. Hair in Indian culture is considered to be a sensing mechanism. It brings to my mind the fact that the entire body is just a multifaceted sensing antenna.
