The reader comments after this report are from conservatives saying No special rights for LGBT people! Here is my reply: My life partner of 36 years was brutally abused and neglected in a nursing home for being a lesbian after having a massive stroke. She died from sepsis from a deliberately untreated infection from bedsores during a time period when I had complications from breast cancer surgery and was unable to visit her and check up on her care. The hideous way LGBT people are treated in these institutions merits special accommodations because of the severe consequences of the bigotry aimed at them while helpless to defend themselves. There is more than ample evidence of the pervasive abuse of LGBT elderly to justify special accommodations. When society becomes fair and rectifies these conditions then it will no longer be necessary to establish safe places to protect helpless LGBT people from bigotry and abuse. Until then we have a responsibility for maintaining their safety.
