The recent heinous incident of acid attack on a lady doctor by two bike borne ruffians in Delhi.is certainly not a new found occurrence.It is latest one in the series of those 400 cases of acid attacks which crop up every month across the country.We people as a part of society have been habitual tolerant in reaction to such despicable incidents. for many years..As issues stand right now, one must draw hope and comfort that Home Minister Rajnath Singh will keep and live up his promise in approving measures to check sale of acids, to ensure speedy trials in such cases,treatment of victims on cashless basis from victim compensation fund and in extending benefits of reservation in Government jobs as well as providing the facility of easy set of loans so that such women can redeem their self esteem and dignity. The paramount task which needs to be undertaken by the responsible authorities is to ensure that such acid remains out of the reach of people unless they furnish requisite personal details and explain the reasons for its use.Secondly Government authorities also need to regulate many unregulated industrial units which use such acids for their end operations. Acid attack is certainly a macabre act driven by psychotic and mentally annihilated personalities.For a man. it is just a blind and sordid method to extract revenge but for a w oman ,the nature of injuries is life long traumatic and horror stricken..In our societies such deformities also generate social stigma .Only harsh law embedded with severe punishment alone will not win the purpose unless its root cause is also eradicated. Sale of such acids must be strictly screened , monitored and its illegality must carry the strictest punishment along with hefty fine. Society must also assume its duty to prevent and minimize such atrocities on women.A sustained campaign against such acts must be started by our Government and society so that values of humanity do not get eroded.
