The recipe was given to me by one of my older friends that lives in a very small community up in the mountains called Newport Tenn. I always carry my flattop (guitar) when I visit cause she loves to sing and she loves to hang out with all of her friends every week in a old store that has one of those old wood stoves. I have always said that the most talented folks are sitting somewhere up in the hills and they has never been heard. Playing banjos , the steel , you name it and they can play it. Look these folks are at least 80 years old and I have never seen so much passion and a sense of direction and imgination that mocks none other because they have a style of their own. Bluegrass and gospel music was played and alot of dancing and you know me I am not shy but lawd even the ole timers can out dance this country gal. I never once glanced at my watch I reckon I just didnt want that night to end , but I know we were there for almost 5 hours. It was amazing!! My friend Mrs. Sue is around 85 years young and she sat down and commenced to telling me that she wanted me to have this recipe but there was only 1 secret ingredient and without that the cookies would be impossible. She said honey listen to what I am about to tell you because I am older than you and I learned the hard way when I didnt take the same advice that I am about to give you (keep in mind that my brain is doing about a 100mph so it seemed cause for some reason or another I had the feeling that white lighting was going to be mixed into the batter) Mrs. Sue handed me the recipe and said sweetheart before you even turn on your stove you must begin to sing and you are to sing throughout the process and if you fail to do so then you will have wasted a entire batch of cookies. I asked her if it would be ok if I could just hum , cause I remember that every time my mom would go into the kitchen to cook she would either hum or whistle and she did and trust me everything she cooked was fantastic!! Mrs. Sue responding by saying if the recipe required either humming or whistling then I wouldnt be telling you to sing (yeap I was busted on that one) hahaha. She said I know this may sound odd but any time that your are singing and thinking good thoughts then you are not entertaining other ideas or thoughts other than on that cookie and thats why listening to music and singing are important Well folks she knew what she was talking about. I was curious and baked these cookies without singing and oh my I gave them to my critters and they threw them back at me that was how bad they were:) I made a batch and starting singing about 10 minutes before I began the process and they were just perfect. Whatever task that you take on be sure to have your mind clear and remember to stay focus. Now is a perfect time to thank the ones so much for the beautiful Christmas Cards along with your words of encouragement. I was sorting through my mail and noticed a particular return address from a Sue Ellen Ewing and from Dallas Texas to boot so to speak and the very first thing that came in my mind was I wonder where is JR hahahaha But we sure do appreciate the time that it took each of yall to sit down and actually handwrite a note , because this day and time well I folks say now that they are just too busy. I kept looking at all the return addresses and thinking that I dont know anyone from Hawaii , NJ etc until I opened them up and learned as to why I had received such beautiful cards. I am not really certain what route each of you take to stay focused and positive but I have had the best teachers in my life and for that I will be forever grateful. We all have lost people that have made a tremendous differences in our lives but for every beginning there is a ending and their memories live within us. This society in which we live has done a complete turn around but I believe that we have to decide on 2 things and 1 being will you give up and go along with everyone else and forget all the hours of teachings and countless prayers that were done by our parents or 2 will you stand and never waiver on your beliefs no matter how tough it gets? Please do not lose sight in God because he is the one that can and will judge you. People see the outside not the inside. It is important to tell yourself everyday I AM SOMEBODY CAUSE GOD DONT MAKE NO JUNK. The more you speak these words the quicker you will begin to notice improvements. Sure it means you can play your instrument well but in no way means you are a musician. A musician is someone who can not only play, but someone who can understand, write, perform, and feel music. Musicians also can play with other musicians due to their knowledge and ability. A musician must be well-rounded in every aspect of music. They must also have the ability to listen.
