The replica of Gale V that is running this week in Detroit is the 1955 Gold Cup winner with my brother lee behind the wheel. My Gale V was the last in three hulls that Gale Racing built. 50 years ago this month I began to race Gale V, and became the 1964 Rookie Driver of the Year My best race was a third place podium finish with Miss Budweiser in second place, and Miss Bardahl as the winner of the 1964 Harrah’s Tahoe Regatta In winning the event, Bardahl earned Harrahs coveted trophy for the third consecutive year. Ron Mussons share of the $25,000 prize money came to $6900 plus $800 in qualifying premiums. On the basis of first, second and third place finishes, Miss Budweiser finished second and Gale V in third. Notre Dame, Smirnoff, $ Bill, Miss Madison, Exide, Tahoe Miss, Eagle Electric, and Fascination followed in that order. Mariner Too and Tempo failed to score points.
