The republicans have fought every jobs creating bill that is not a tax cut bill. Or a compromise of such. Our infrastructure is deteriorating daily, with cost growing that will eventually HAVE to be spent. Civil engineers now place the price on this a 2.7 trillion dollars, from highways & bridges, tunnels, to sewage and water systems, our electrical grid, say nothing of a wireless America and high speed rail systems. This money is destined to be spent, we can not avoid it if we are to entertain an expanding economy that can last decades. Only a massive infrastructure project now solves two problems, it stops the increases in costs that will be incurred, and it would create millions and millions or new jobs lasting years, increasing the tax base, thus the GDP, the debt incurred can be easily found through energy taxes, and an increase in federal gasoline tax, a trade tax on Wall St, and if the will was there a change in tax laws, ending deferred income or losses, and treating all multi millionaires income as income, not capital gains. All of which will reduce the total debt of the U.S. and bring down annual deficits. This project will happen unless of course we wish to become a third world nation with nukes. For without an infrastructure, private investment will never grow as it should. Govt spending of this sort frees up investment capital, not stymie it.
