The results are in according to the New York Times Dec 1st, 2014; this past Black Friday Weekend, sales were down 11% despite forecasts for growth over last year. Further they write, Over the weekend, shoppers across the country had noted unremarkable crowds. source: The word Boycott doesnt appear anywhere in this article because the nature of journalism (as opposed to editorial) is to not print anything as fact that isnt proved. But there is paragraph of fact in the article: Sales, both in stores and online, from Thanksgiving through the weekend were estimated to have dropped 11 percent, to $50.9 billion, from $57.4 billion last year, according to preliminary survey results released Sunday by the National Retail Federation. Sales fell despite many stores’ opening earlier than ever on Thanksgiving Day. The article goes on to suggest lots of reasons: maybe were tired of sales (??) maybe its still the recession(?). This is an invitation to read between the lines. How about despite the videos of whichever americans went to shopping centers, many choose to stay home in quiet or vocal solidarity with the idea of making a protest statement about the level of injustice in the American legal system? I believe thats the answer; just like I believe there was no good reason to gun down and/or kill Mike Brown, Travyon Martin, Eric Garner, Akai Gurley and so many others. The philosophical question is if a tree falls in the forest and it doesnt make a sound, did it really fall, Im saying lets make noise about this and answer that with a yes. This is what the start looks like, no need to doubt it, or encourage doubt, lets just be open to a plan of constant expression, however, whenever we can, to keep making our unwillingness to stand for injustice known.
