The results reveal that sad music brings up “a wide range of complex and partially positive emotions, such as nostalgia, peacefulness, tenderness, transcendence, and wonder,” the researchers report. Interesting article and whats of greatest interest to me is the RANGE of emotions that are associated with sad music. Having just returned to Marilyn Mansons discography (which I grew up with, which I return to every couple of years), Im actually made-happy by the very depressing, angst-cynicism (especially of the early stuff). Im not sure if it was a good choice or not to listen to Manson over, say, the Beatles, when I was 15-18, but I look back with pride that I had some kind of role model keeping me a free thinker in my youth. Sad music for me also extends to Chopin, Bright Eyes, and even, arguably, the Blues from the early 20th. What about you? What kind of Sad Music do you listen to, and how does it affect you? psmag/navigation/books-and-culture/positive-emotional-impact-sad-music-93607/
