The revolution against the satanic and diabolic system of colonialism,barbarism and terror unleashed by the british in 1890 was achieved primarily because the land between Zambezi and Limpompo was engulfed by,and inspired by a spirit,genuine spirit of change.I reminiesce with a great admiration the brave fight in the Anglo Ndebele war,great men of a great kingdom laid down their lives for their cattle,women,children and above all for the generations to come starting with me and still counting.I cannot,can never and will not be tempted at all to forget the brave task that Nehanda and Kaguvi carried out for me and you.The very pictures we see in people making history and dynamics of history speak to us of the role of Mapondera and the troubles he endured together with many to;free our land.To free their women and children.Huts were burnt,cattle destroyed,women raped and men butchered in cold blood and with rapine,but the men of old did not weary,they did not lose hope,they kept ablaze the flame of the struggle,the pursuit of a better life and the equality of all.History will never forget the role of the generation of Benjamin Burombo,great torch bearers and trade unionists at a precarious time in the history of this land.l am inspired,uplifted to share some love for and with my own country.Words can and will never paint comprehensively the sacrifice that our fathers and great grand fathers made in crossing rivers to author the historic armed struggle.Many lives were lost and my eldest aunt lost a son,many lost husbands,children and fathers all for the sacrifice of independence,words fail me but l will remain grateful and with pride l shall recall that great sacrifice by not only my relatives,but by the people of this country collectively.l may and will not forget the role played by the peasants in that war.My brother tells me of how my own father funded the Zipra forces in our area,my own mother tells stories of late night cooking for the now war veterans.l look to all this and see a different people enmeshed together,intricately interwoven for one cause,the love of their country.lt is not for me to take stock of our democratic struggle now,you all know,atleast those that care to check.We live at the lowest epock in the history of the development of this nation.Our times will remain worse untill we learn to unite and fight from one corner.Let us conquer fear and narrow self serving interests to usher a better Zimbabwe.l admire Mandela and the great defiance,serious men of that time throwing caution and fear to the dogs to face jail and brutality to achieve a historic overthrow of apartheid.Divided and divisive political parties will not achieve change.Money mongering NGOs will sure enjoy resorting and conferencing and will not achieve change.Facebook revolutionists like me and you reading will actually waste time.Real change is in unity of purpose and a rekindling and discovering of the spirit of giving your all for your country.We will suffer until there is love lost between us and our nation.
