The richest 85 people on earth possess as much wealth as the poorer half of the global population. These numbers come from an Oxfam study made public today on the occasion of the 44th World Economic Forum (WEF) whose annual meeting takes place in Davos, Switzerland, from Wednesday to Saturday. The international community has been called to meet and discuss economic challenges and trends, aiming to develop the actions necessary to respond to current and emerging challenges, says the WEF. State and business leaders from around the world were invited to the meeting, but the African presence is mainly just representatives from Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa.
