The right or center right now governs among major democracies in India, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Poland, Turkey and Israel. The left or center left governs in the U.S, Brazil, France, Italy and in much of Latin America. Upcoming elections in Brazil may be a close and the right stands to gain in European Union legislative elections to be held soon. While some of this is cyclical--it does not diminish the BJP win in India yesterday to say that the outgoing coalition was tired after 10 years in power--the left needs to find ways to offer everyday working people hope in a changing economy, find ways to integrate immigrants into society and offer a new reason for support when in some Western democracies social safety nets are already in place. At the moment, the left and center-left is not finding these answers even as protest outside of official channels--much of it from the left--is gaining strength in some places on the globe.
