The right path No politician is there to serve the people The people who took over from the British in 1947 were trying to have power and they were not in a mood to give power to a stranger and that was the reason we had to face this partition in which lacs were killed and crores had to migrate to unknown places. And after attaining this independence, they themselves had been ruling over this country and they did not allow new entries from the public side. Had these sets of politicians in mind to serve the people, much could have been done till date. The country is full of mountains, rivers, jungles, minerals, coals, iron, gas, petroleum, fertile land, hard working people, rains, different seasons. We must admit that these people were not interested in improving the condition of the people, rather most of them were interested in their own welfare and that is the reason, the people who were in politics or in power otherwise, had been turning rich and richer and it is on record that common people of India could not get proper education, proper training, proper jobs and proper wages and since prices had been rising and cost of living had been becoming dearer, most of the people have been reduced to poverty and it has become difficult for these people to come out of this poverty. They are going down. Today, we have entered into an age where experts are required to administer a country. Common politicians would not work. We need people with proper education, proper training, proper expertise and for that purpose, we shall have to prescribe some minimums for those who want to come to our august houses and people who want ministries, must be highly qualified so that they could work over the highly qualified and trained bureaucracy. Therefore, time has come when all the parties must show us ‘ shadow cabinets ‘ before the elections and the parties must give us the grounds on the basis of which these people could get their names in shadow cabinets. The people are the masters of the country and they must know who shall be administering the country and whether that fellow is actually fit for the job. Our august houses are not houses of the Lords where they shall sit and enjoy company of others. They are public servants and they are here only to work for us. Only competent people can administer the country and when they make laws for us, they must be aware of the spirit of the law. At present most of the laws are drafted by the bureaucracy and we know that these sets of bureaucracy are not answerable to the people of India. Actually India has been turned into a bureaucracy because the British were running this country with the help of bureaucracy and that is the reason, the people at the head adopted that method and they are running the government on those lines till date. Till we choose highly qualified people, the bureaucracy shall remain in power. Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate, District Courts, Patiala-Punjab-India-147001
