The right to indigenous preferential treatment? There are many - TopicsExpress

The right to indigenous preferential treatment? There are many in Fiji who think about giving indigenous preferential treatment just because they came here first and owned land. You own land, you have not created land. You have just settled, that does not mean the white sandy beaches and islands have been created by you for tourism. You are claiming that tourism is the backbone of the country which we all agree, but do not claim that it is only the indigenous who contribute - they mostly benefit from tourism and already have preferential treatment in this sector which is racist on some level in terms of recruitment and the share of the royalty - that should be given to the govt, not just the land owners. Tourism Fiji promotes only the iTaukei culture and fails to recognize the Indian culture in their campaigns. The value of land, its ability to support tourism comes from infrastructure that has been developed by the hard world of the Girmit population during the rise of the sugar industry. At this time, the natives were enjoying their normal lifestyle in the Koros while Indian population worked like slaves in the land, from the earnings the buildings rose, roads schools and hospitals were built. Later, the natives came out from their Koros and wished to rule and failed to recognize the contribution of the Indians. This is a sad past of Fijis history and your racist sentiments are natural as they have been promoted by affirmative active plans and racist policies of the past governments.
