The roller bearings on our sliding mirrored wardrobe door between - TopicsExpress

The roller bearings on our sliding mirrored wardrobe door between the bedroom and en suite bog collapsed completely at the beginning of December (theyd been showing signs for a while). Well they were about 25 years old so I cant really complain. Anyway, I searched tinternet in vain finding out along the way that the company that made them went tits up in 1998, the guy at the specialist could sell me a complete set of new carriages for £90 but I would need a new track which wasnt made any more and he had run out. The only option I had was to try and replace the existing bearings for new ones, it was that or a full set of wardrobe doors which would be big money. Now as you can see, the originals were made of hard nylon to make the doors glide smoothly. I managed to find a set of bearings that had an outer race surrounded in nylon, great. Then the mission was to find someone who could turn them on a lathe to match the originals. Thanks Dave Bah Humbug McNicoll for pointing me in the direction of a super wee precision engineering firm in Livi who when I took the bits along and explained what I needed said no problem, leave it with us and well sort it. They did a splendid job not only doing the bearings but also making centre bosses, spacers and axles to suit, absolute stars and cheap in aww! I rebuilt the carriages tonight and refitted the door and it slides and glides like a new one. Big pat on the back to me and cheers to Pollock Precision Engineers in Brucefield Square. Phew! saved an effin fortune there :-)
