The run up to the 2015 general elections has really and truly - TopicsExpress

The run up to the 2015 general elections has really and truly exposed Nigerian Christians as very gullible, sentimentally and selectively judgemental, and very easy to deceive and mislead, using the Bible as a tool. From CAN President, Pastor Oritsejafor to Tunde Bakare to Mbaka and Oyedepo, it has been one controversial statement or the other which has tended to heat up the political space at a time when all responsible leaders, most especially religious leaders;given the way Nigerians hold their pastors in even higher regards than God himself;are supposed to do and say things that will unite the Country at this crucial time. More worrisome is the tendency to hammer those men of Godwhose views do not conform to the mind set of those Christians who have been brainwashed by their pastors to believe that anybody that criticises the Jonathan government is an enemy of Christians, because President Jonathan happens to be a Christian. But when one their own speaks, no matter how offensive that statement is, no matter the danger such statements pose to the continued existence and unity of our dear Country, they are celebrated as heroes by those myopic Christians who fail to understand that hunger, starvation, insecurity, war and strife does not recognise religious divides. Most especially, the effects of bad governance that strangulates its people does not also recognise such boundaries. A good Christian should be the last to jump on a band wagon because of sentimental or religious reasons as he is expected to have a spirit of discernment, and search all things in the light of the Bible, which should be the standard for all Christians, but which sadly, has been replaced by the word of the pastor, which is now of a higher value than the word of God. When Mbaka spoke against President Jonathan, all hell was let loose, with the Priest called all sorts of names by people who claim to be Christians. Last Sunday, Dr.Oyedepo had some very harsh words for supposed enemies of President Jonathan that went against every tenet of Christianity as espoused in the Bible. I expected the same level of condemnation from those Christians regarding this very stupid, divisive and potentially explosive statement by a respected man of God. Such statement coming from a man, whose word is taken as gospel by his members and otherChristians,is a disgrace to all who call themselve Christians, especially those that worship in his church. No respectable cleric that wants d good of this Country would make such inflammatory statements that is capable of creating a North/South divide, with more far reaching and damaging consequenses for the corporate existence of our Country. I call upon all Christians and leaders of good conscience to call Dr.Oyedepo and his cohorts to order. They should be reminded that Nigeria is bigger than them, and that their interests may not neccessarily be that of their members and of Nigerians generally. And Christians should be wise to know that most of these pastors are very self serving, and in the main, look after their own interest, and thus cannot be the barometer thru which they(i.e.Christians)can gauge and/or make their political choices. If Nigeria falls apart today, God will have questions for Dr.Oyedepo and his ilks!!
