The sad thing is there are also many people who try to use "the thief on the cross" as their justification for not obeying the clear and plain command of Jesus to be baptized in order to be saved. On the Day of Judgment it will not be the case of "what about the thief on the cross". The thief on the cross was before the death of Christ and before the New Testament took effect. The Old Testament was still in effect then. We read in Hebrews 9:16-17, "For where there is a testament there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives". The New Testament took effect after the death of Christ. We are now under the New Testament. Anyone refusing to obey Jesus on His terms in the New Testament has no legitimate claim on the salvation Jesus offers. One will certainly be held accountable for his disobedience by the eternal loss of his soul. Either we obey what Jesus says or we will be cast into Hell. If we end up in Hell, we will only have ourselves to blame.
