The sale of the remaining assets of Hand Picked Guitars went from agreement to done deal this morning. I got the check just before lunchtime. I paid off all of the stores remaining debts by 3pm. There was enough left over to treat myself to a cheeseburger at Fuddruckers this afternoon, and maybe a few tanks of gas for the next trip south. Over the past decade, a lot of little stores like mine have been forced to close under the weight of bankruptcy, leaving some good and honest store owners without any means to pay what they owe before they close their doors. I know how they feel, because I have shared the fitful dreams when you wonder if you will sell enough today to cover the bills that are due tomorrow. Far too often, those nightmares occur in daydreams, while dealing with somebody who is in your store just looking around, or just killin time, when selling something today is your pressing need. I am happy to be finished with all of that, and feel fortunate to be, among independent guitar shops, one of the lucky ones. I got out alive, with The Worlds Greatest Hamburger to boot!
