The same day MH17 was downed by Russian-backed separatists and the conflict in the Gaza Strip escalated to new heights, President Obamas schedule looked like this (from the NY Times, of all places): a cheeseburger with fries at the Charcoal Pit in Delaware, a speech about infrastructure and two splashy fund-raisers in New York City. We watched a VERY similar situation unfold thirty years ago. The Soviet Union, without warning, shot down a civilian Korean airliner flying from New York to Seoul, killing all 269 on board. When President Ronald Reagan addressed the nation about the tragedy, he said, It would be easy to think in terms of vengeance, but that is not a proper answer. We want justice and action. And Reagan turned his words into action by accelerating work on the Star Wars missile defense system, working with Congress on the Reagan defense buildup, building relationships with European allies, and enforcing strong sanctions that ultimately bankrupted and brought down the once unshakable Soviet Union. This was a true reset. This was true leadership. But now we have Obama, and his man-wife Michael. I miss Mr. Reagan.
