The same groups which are trying to discredit Neil deGrasse Tyson, - TopicsExpress

The same groups which are trying to discredit Neil deGrasse Tyson, using ambiguous themes unrelated to Astrophysics and Astronomy, have unleashed a campaign for a second season of the Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey mini-series. Which was not intended as a continued series. The scope of the project, conceived as a mini-series, co-produced by Ann Druyans Cosmos Studios, MacFarlanes Fuzzy Door Productions, and National Geographic Channel, with Ann Druyan, Seth MacFarlane, Cosmos Studios Mitchell Cannold, and director Brannon Braga as the executive producers, was limited to the 13 episodes aired in the Spring of 2014 (equal to the original 13-part Cosmos: A Personal Voyage first aired in 1980 on the Public Broadcasting System, and hosted by Carl Sagan.) The question that jumps to the fore, it is why do these groups want a new season? After reviewing the several dozen sites that have suggested the continuation, and the thousands of rumors and bogus news related to a possible new season, we are left with a few morsels that indicate a possibility of an additional mini-series in the future, none related to a second season, but as an independent production. Judging for the time that Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey took to develop and be released, it would be unrealistic to expect any new project to be aired before 2017 or even later. NdGT had a lot of fun in the making of the mini-series, and probably wouldnt oppose to a new project, and Seth MacFarlane commented in similar terms. What would be the focus is still to be decided in the future, and what Ann Druyan wants is not known. So, back to the question. These groups pushing for a second season, what they really want is a public fail. Presenting it as fait-acompli (done deal), they want to generate a generalized public support to the second season, then turn around and insinuate that the failure to be materialized, is somehow the doing of NdGT. Further discredit of the Dr. If there would be a sequel, is none of our business, but the people involved. Of course, the fans of Sagan Cosmos were thrilled that the NdGT sequel was and is a continued success and so were the fans of NdGT. Lets enjoy it, let us use it to promote the love of Science in general and the fields of Astrophysics, Astronomy, and Cosmology in particular... We still need to get the benefits of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey to reach many other millions of people around the world. Right now, and personally, I am more concerned with the dubbing into other languages, as many as would be economically possible. And push for it to get into the schools for student viewing. Plenty to worry about, for the next five years at least. And making sure we dont get used by the spurious interests trying to get in a game where they dont belong.
