The samurai have a maxim: Seven times down - eight times up! - TopicsExpress

The samurai have a maxim: Seven times down - eight times up! This is not the highest skill. People pride themselves on being able to overcome adversity through the application of strength. People create wars, treat natural circumstances like battles, and then congratulate themselves for mustering the strength to win yet another fight. People like to beat their chest, and esteem hard-won victories. But we can be beyond strength and weakness; beyond victory and defeat. We can train the subtle skills of surviving and being super-happy - even when we no longer have what people think of as strength. Look at this drill. Its a flow. Where exactly is the point where down becomes up? Hah! If our movement training leads us to a freedom of mind and spirit that doesnt need to compartmentalize up and down, or make distinctions between things that are inherently inseparable …then we know we are on a Good Path. ~ William Vives (you say Vee-ves; it means to live)
