The satan (spirit of accusation) closes the ears and eyes of those that it fills. It causes people to be unable to reason, unable to have perspective, and unable to love. Jesus spoke to people filled with this spirit and said things like, You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of, and You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Throughout the Gospels we see Jesus barely escape from the hands of those who constantly are wanting to kill him because they are filled with that spirit. Once the church began, they faced that same predicament. After Stephen gave his sermon this is how we are told the people responded, At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. People filled with the satan see only one way to maintain their life/peace - load all of their problems on the one who seems to unstabalize/threaten their life and kill them (whether literally or figuratively). Look at the story of Judas, The satan entered Judas... and Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted. The satan always plugs ears, shuts eyes, and moves people to move quickly and irrationally. The only way we can possibly drive out the satan from people is to do what Jesus and Stephen did, offer forgiveness. Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do, and Lord, do not hold this sin against them. Jesus could call out the poison in their life, he could name their destructive behavior and religious scapegoating for what it was, but he also could offer table-fellowship, love, and forgiveness. The ringleader at the stoning of Stephen, Saul, was soon delivered from that realm of evil into the great apostle Paul. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Romans 16:20 God crushes the satan by throwing him into the consuming fire (Gods self) and that spirit melts away through the power of the forgiving blood of Jesus. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Revelation 12:10-11 The forgiving blood of Jesus wins the day. The dragon cannot defeat the child (Rev 12:13). And, in the end, the child tames the dragon... The infant will play near the cobras den, and the young child will put its hand into the vipers nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. Isaiah 11:9 For God was pleased to have all his fulness dwell in Christ, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood shed on the cross. Colossians 1:19-20 Do not succumb to playing satans game. Cast out satan by taking him to the cross. Show satan that he has been reconciled to Christ through the shed blood. Allow all the vipers and cobras in your life to be tamed by the power of forgiveness. We will all play again. All will be FILLED with the knowledge of the LORD rather than FILLED with the spirit of accusation. Peace.
