The scary part of self employment...I had over $1,000 worth of cancellations in the past two months. I was doing my accounting and I have close to $900 in unpaid balances. I wish people would take artists more seriously and realize that we not only do this because it is what we LOVE to do but this is how we support ourselves and children! I live solely on my income from photography. Please do NOT make an appointment if you have no intentions of keeping it. Yes, I understand things come up, family emergencies but I know sometimes there is no valid excuse. Think for a second if your boss told you they didnt need you for a day of work. Ive had to work twice as hard trying to cover business expenses. This is why I have certain policies. Ive been too lenient and that is my fault. Here on out I do require a deposit even if youve been a client for years. Im more than grateful for my amazing clients who make and keep their appointments and pay their balances and sessions when theyre supposed to. I know my other business owner friends experience the same thing...hair stylists, dance teachers, personal trainers, makeup artists, tattoo artists, bakers, djs...please keep this in mind when scheduling with small business owners!
