The school situation has gained a lot of attention on FB. Let us not forget that those of us that work for the school system are not the only families facing current / upcoming difficult times. TVA families are facing their own uncertain situation, workers from Uncle Lees are seeking new employment, and several families in the county are affected by the coal mine shutdowns from Alliance. Each of these will have a trickle down impact on the local economy through less disposable spending, impacts on peripheral / support businesses, the local housing market will likely take a hit, thus impacting tax revenue from property taxes, which then impacts all public services. Im normally an optimist, never a pessimist, but above all Im a realist. I shudder to think what this county is going to look like in 2-5 yrs. This county needs our prayers.
