The season of Lent meaning we are reminded that in 40 days our Lord would-have begun the journey to the cross. Because many of my friends are Christian both Catholic and Protestant Christians and Jewish. A few questions come up as to why we do what we do? So here are a few things to clarify. Catholics all over this world receive ashes embarking the beginning of Lent, it a used as a simple reminder that our creator God the Father made us from the dust of the earth and to dust we shall return. Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation but completely voluntary. The second point is Lent is a reminder that as we go through life, we are to persevere and resist worldly temptations that cause us to sin, and sin keeps us keep us separated from God. As Jesus resisted Satan during the 40 days, prior to the cross. The 40 days is significant sign of reflection, and since the life of our Lord is a completely a recapitulation of the Exodus. The freeing of slaves, we are going to be freed from the slavery of sin because of Christ. The 40 days of those Wandering in the Desert eating only water from the rock/spring hit from Moses staff, and eating only Manna (bread from heaven). We looking toward the Passion of our Lord, the new Passover Lamb we too are to walk with him to the cross, in a time of reflection of our lives, to pray without ceasing and give to the needy. We look forward to dying to self and reborn with Christ who went to the cross for us. To the new covenant taking and eating the supper of the lamb naturally not the meat but the new living bread come down from heaven....we called this the Eucharist the body of Our Lord. This is a lot of information to digest I pray you take the time to read, understand and consider. With much love and peace your sister in Christ, Happy Lent!
