The second time in six months I’ve been rear-ended at a stop - TopicsExpress

The second time in six months I’ve been rear-ended at a stop sign, and the third time this year that the rack on the back of my Jeep has spared me the indignity of replacing my fender (I think that makes the overall total in 8 years as something like 9 times I’ve been hit from behind). That thing just takes the impact. Lady was very shaken, embarrassed, and apologetic. My Jeep rack scuffed up her bumper but I said, “Hey, I’m fine. The rack just re-distributes the impact down the frame, so if you’re good, and I’m good…” I stuck out my hand and she shook it, relieved. “You’re so nice. I was scared, I thought you’d be mad and angry,” she said. “It would be understandable. My foot just slipped, you know, it was an accident.” I laughed, “Naw, I’m too busy right now to be pissed. Besides, this happens a lot. I’m getting pretty chill about it. It’s all about where we spread the karma. Have a good day.” I left her and she stared after me all bewildered. But I was already back in the car, thinking about profit model spreadsheets, distribution routes, contact negotiations. Six hours later, and I just remembered it even happened at all. Just no room in my brain for anything but the publishing house launch this weekend, not even a fender bender. I consider that a pretty good place to be.
