The sectarian violence that we see in Syria and Iraq on a daily - TopicsExpress

The sectarian violence that we see in Syria and Iraq on a daily basis reminds me of Tudor-era bloodshed (and even later) - when your life depended on whether or not you believed that a piece of bread was or was not truly the body of a man named Jesus. Reflect on how ridiculous that is. The Sunni believe the Shia are heretics (and essentially vice-versa) stemming from an argument over who should have succeeded a man who claimed he flew on a winged horse from Saudi Arabia to Jerusalem - Abu al-Qasim Muhammed (PBUH). The fighting has a political and historical basis, but religion is so intertwined (esp. since caliphates) and just as much to blame because it gives the true believer a perfect emotionally-driven angst to murder heretics on a massive scale. Those are some powerful memes. Thank you cult leaders everywhere.
