The security in Kenya seems to be deteriorating. Let’s look at - TopicsExpress

The security in Kenya seems to be deteriorating. Let’s look at some few assumptions. Is Kenya under attack because of her incursion in Somalia? I don’t think so, because other countries like Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti and Ethiopia were among the first country to send their troops and are still in the war-torn nation. Is Kenya under attack because of the Somali people in the country? I don’t think so, Somalis have spread across many countries, some of which have their troops still in Somali but they don’t experience attacks, E.g. in Ethiopia there are 4.6Million Somali, in Djibouti 464,600 and no attack has been reported on the two states yet there troops are active in Somali. Are the attacks really terrorist attacks? That is up to the security organs, but again terrorist are known to claim responsibility for their attacks as a PR tool, the only attack that the terror group claimed responsibility was the Westgate Mall attack, all the others no one has claimed attack for the same. From the above we can deduce that Ethnic Profiling won’t solve our problem, KDF pulling out of Somali won’t solve our problem, nor tinted windows or checking for ID before boarding a matatu. We can’t arrest and arraign in court matatu operator or trader in Gikomba for failure to search their customers\clients for explosives. That is why we have a government in place. We need to establish the root cause of the attack and explore all possible options, are there unscrupulous business people who want to create a need for security services by first creating tension? Are we under attack by the West for our choices and our business focus to the East? Are there some political powers behind the attacks (War is a continuation of politics by other means)? This call for serious security scrutiny, re-thinking and restructure our security apparatus. Kenya, my country am not giving up on you. My sincere condolence to the ones who have lost their loved ones or affected by the inhuman acts of terror. In other news, the appointment of Dr Nelson Githinji as the Director of NYS was fair and square any other argument is ethnic profiling.
