The shingles have officially gotten to me. Three weeks ago I had to get a special papal dispensation from my doctor in order to get the Lyrica which has been working so well. I ran out of it a few days ago, and the past few days have been little short of hellish. Saw my doc today, she happily prescribed more Lyrica. Gerry took the paper prescription to the CVS at 3:00. When I went to pick up the drug (at 5:30) I was told to wait for 20 minutes, then I was told that a SECOND papal dispensation was required and since it was after hours it wouldnt go through until tomorrow. HAD THE PHARMACIST called my doc at 3pm, they would have had the super-duper-insurance-approved note from my doc, but apparently they were too busy to even find out about the NEW dispensation until I stopped by to pick up the drug at 5:30. Im not asking for CVS to take my pain away, Im asking them to do their job in a timely manner so I have a fighting chance to get ON TOP OF MY PAIN and not have another sleepless night of incredibly tender, painful, touch-it-and-Ill-scream nerve pain all over my side and back. I feel so defeated. The pharmacist at the CVS said, dismissively, Ive HAD shingles, I know what its like... when I suggested that she had no idea how painful this was going to be tonight. Im exhausted from the pain, I hurt, I feel like the side of my body is an open wound, and Im astounded when I look down and see relatively normal looking skin where I SWEAR a mini-ball went shooting through my body. (I hope you appreciate the gratuitous The Civil War reference...) I got TWO huge shots today (Xolaire) and Im afraid Im retreating into my 11-year old self. Apologies for my self pity, I need to go bake a cake for my pity party. Thanks for listening. Ill try to be more upbeat in future. Sister (and brother) pain sufferers, Ill be here for ANY commiseration you ever need in future. In other, better news the doctor ALSO prescribed a narcotic for my breakthrough pain, and I was able to get THAT prescription, so although its not my #1 choice and has not great side effects, Im glad to have it. And my benedryl for the itching, so Ill be able to sleep tonight. And now to my bath. [Have you figured out that one of the side effects of the narcotic is I become very verbose. Gee, how could you tell...?] I need to take this drug the next time Im writing a blog post.
