The shock (to me) of this story isnt that a rock singer is going to jail for doing something stupid, but that there are people out there that actually believe that all Christian bands are actually Christian!?!? Ive personally known musicians over the years that have told me (and anyone within ear shot) that they were going to play Christian music in order to cash in on that crowd and know several who did just that. And that is just regionally.... I imagine this is quite common across the nation (if not the world). Theres no screening test for any band claiming to be Christian. They simply say they are and that is that. Play a few of those mega church sponsored Jesus-stocks and bada bing, bada boom- a nice fat paycheck awaits most of these bands. And labels certainly arent worried about who is what when it comes to counting the cash rolling in. And to me, its funny how some people who listen to Christian music and only Christian music, cant even begin to wrap their head around the fact that MANY mainstream, well known rock bands that dont look like it, dont sound like it, dont act like it,are actually Christian or made up of members who are, most of which makes it into the music. Alice Cooper anyone? Black Sabbath? U2? Not that it matters an iota to me - I judge music by whether or not I like it - and not by what the artist does with his/her spare time. To me, those who pigeon hole their selections and only listen to one genre like country, rock or Christian (in this case) are doing themselves a great injustice by not exploring other types of music, some of which sounds...well...just like heaven.
