The shoulder mobility reaching movement pattern demonstrates - TopicsExpress

The shoulder mobility reaching movement pattern demonstrates whether or not you can easily move each arm through its maximal range of motion. It tests shoulder mobility, shoulder blade stability, and thoracic spine mobility and dynamic stability. If you cannot score perfectly (3) on this, running and swimming movements will be adversely affected. Obviously it would be best for me to perform this screen on you, but if you are doing online coaching with me we dont have that option. I will need the measurements for each side. What I need you to do is: 1. Have someone measure your hand span - hold out your hand palm-side up with fingers extended. The measurement is taken from the crease at the base of your palm to the end of your middle finger. Write this measurement down. 2. Stand tall with your feet together and arms hanging comfortably (note that I am not standing with my feet together in this video, so please do stand with them together!) 3. Make a fist so your fingers are around your thumbs. 4. In one motion, place the right fist over head and down your back as far as possible while simultaneously taking your left fist up your back as far as possible. 5. Do not “creep” your hands closer after their initial placement. 6. Measure the distance between the two closest points of each fist. Write each of these down. 7. Perform three measurements for each side. Right over the top is considered the right side, and left over the top is considered the left. Make sure to clarify this! 8. Perform the impingement clearing test for each side (see link below). If pain/pinching is provoked by this test, please let me know. *Refer to page 4 for pictures and clarification: graycookmovement/downloads/FMS%20Scoring%20Criteria.pdf For the setup and verbal instructions straight out of Gray Cooks Movement book, refer to page 3: graycookmovement/downloads/FMS%20Verbal%20Instructions.pdf *NOTE: updated videos will be made available very soon.
