The show I just did was a sea of kitsch and mass-imports, with artisans sprinkled throughout. I knew what I was in for and expected it. Every year I feel the need to do one of these. It is a different crowd from the handcrafted shows and I feel I need to show up and educated the general public about my craft. Two things surprised me this year. The first was how all of these people who just spent $11 on an entrance fee walked as if they were in a parade, not looking at anything. The second was the connection that people made with the birds. I heard countless stories and shared several tears with people and their memories of ornaments and a Holidays in the past. I wasnt expecting this, and it really helped solidify my belief in keeping things simple and treasuring the little things in life.
