The sight abuzz on Facebook is horrible and I am glad I was not a witness. I have been told by a reliable source that the circumstances surrounding this were as follows. Marshall County Animal Control received a call from outside the city limits of Arab concerning a dog with three or four pups that had attacked two small dogs. In addition, the dog was in the yard of a elderly lady that was afraid to come off her porch. A neighbor shot the dog and animal control picked the dog up along with the puppies. The puppies were in a separate compartment from the other dog. ACO failed to secure the latch on the compartment, thus the story began. Not a pretty story and I hate that children were witness to seeing this poor dead dog on the back of the truck. I am also told that several people tried to alert, that part I know nothing about. My guess is that Marshall County ACO is unhappy with himself concerning the latch and if someone attempted to alert him, I bet he wishes he would have done things differently. But I must keep in mind that even though it was a horrid event, and every one knows I have had my own problem with Marshall County Animal Control, this was caused my a human mistake. Failure to secure a latch. I feel sure the matter will be addressed. In the meantime there are now three or four puppies that will need to be saved. And there are laws in our county that need to be changed. So I would like for all those who are angry over this incident to prepare a statement as to how you want the laws changed. We get the laws changed and we will see improvement. It wont happen overnight but it will make a difference. So tell the officials we need change. As long as you set back and and wait for change, things will stay the same. Speak up....all the voices need to speak up....thats how you make changes. I think a enforced license is a nice beginning. $10 if spayed or neutered....$50 if not spayed or neutered!!! If we take away all these unwanted litters then ACO wouldnt have to pick them up!!! And there would not be record numbers of dogs dying in our county!!! So prepare your statement. Put your minds to work!!! Ideas? Let me know....I will be waiting to see how many put forth the effort.
