The simmering red tints in the sky tonight remind me of another - TopicsExpress

The simmering red tints in the sky tonight remind me of another night eight years ago, when the sky was this same beautifully ominous color. It was the night before tropical storm Milenyo (international code name Xangsane) and we had just finished putting the National Press Clubs Gridiron show onstage at the Manila Hotel. As the leading lady of the cast, I got to stay in one of the hotels rooms and enjoyed a breath-taking view of Manila Bay. The kids had fallen asleep and Relly was about to nod off when I looked to the sky and saw the blood-red seeping through heavy, dark clouds. I roused my family and rushed them home, complaints and protests notwithstanding. Just a few hours later, the storm hit with enough force to uproot old acacia trees with deep roots, send galvanized iron roofs flying and shatter thick glass windows. Please take all the precautions you need to so you will stay safe: Tape your windows to keep glass shards from flying too far into your house if the panes shatter; check your contingency supplies and first aid kits, evacuate if you are in flood-prone areas. Safety begins with us.
