The simplest Hanzi character is one (yi), which is not really a straight line but a series of eight movements: down to the surface with the tip of the maobi (ink brush), up and to the left to begin the end of the bone-like character, then down again and up to the right as you push down on the maobi to get a thicker line to draw across the paper in a straight line, then begin pulling up on the pressure as you move to the upper, down again, then to the left to complete the character. This was our first day, and you can hear me say Oh, Im going to love this class! Wish you could take with me, Mary Edna Fraser.
